Home security
Cameras, doors, lighting, alarms and smart locks, designed as one system and secured like the computers they are.
For example, a family has a video doorbell, two outdoor cameras added over the years, and an alarm panel from the previous owners. Nobody is sure who can see the footage, where it is kept, or whether the alarm is still monitored.
Most home security is sold one product at a time. We start from the house and what you want to protect, then design what to keep, what to change and what to add, and only then talk about equipment. Our advice is independent: you get a few good options at different costs, you buy what you choose, and we earn nothing from the sale.
What a home security design covers
Most homes get the most protection from these, roughly in this order, often with little new equipment.
Doors treated as one system
Forcing or breaking a door is the most common way into a house, and a strong lock in a weak frame fails at the frame. We look at each door, frame, strike plate and hinge together, including the back door and the door from the garage into the house, and arrange the work that brings them up to standard.
Lighting, dusk to dawn
Good outdoor lighting has some of the strongest evidence behind it, and it makes camera images usable at night. We walk the property after dark and plan lighting for every entrance and dark side of the house, aimed so it does not glare into your windows or your neighbors’.
Cameras and video doorbells
Each camera gets a purpose and a position that serves it. We secure the cameras you already own before suggesting new ones: a second step to sign in, shared logins removed, audio off unless you want it, privacy masks over the street and the neighbors’ yard, and every camera on the separate network for gadgets.
A monitored alarm that is taken seriously
An alarm that is confirmed, by a camera view or a second sensor, gets a better response from monitoring centers and police. We design for that: a camera view for each alarm zone, a cellular backup for when the internet is down, professional monitoring where you want it, and a short written plan for who does what when it goes off.
Smart locks and keyless entry
Codes instead of keys, with a separate code for each family member, cleaner or contractor, so you can switch one off without changing the locks. Every smart lock keeps a mechanical key override, and its app is secured like any other account.
Your footage, your decision
Where video is stored, who in the household can see it, how long it is kept, and whether and how you share a clip with a neighbor or the police. These are privacy decisions, and we help you make them deliberately rather than leave them to a product’s defaults.
Physical security is also cybersecurity
A camera, a doorbell, a smart lock and an alarm panel are each a small computer on your network, usually with an account in the cloud. The real harms are often not a break-in at all: someone gets into the camera account, or footage is seen by people it was never meant for. So every design includes the same account and network protection we give your computers.
How it works
- Free 30-minute call. The house, what concerns you, and what is already installed.
- Home security review. A walk around the property by day and after dark, and a check of every device and account.
- Design. A short written plan with priorities and two or three equipment options at different costs.
- Installation. We take care of the installation and check every part against the design before we call it done.
- Yearly check. Accounts, updates, codes, batteries, lighting and doors, included in a Techicare care plan.
